New Quilt for Mum

It’s been a while since I made a present for my mum and I’d been mulling over what I could do. I’ve made a couple of lapquilts in the past so this time I decided to make a full-sized single bed quilt instead. I fell for a pattern in  “America Makes Fast Quilts, Spring 2012” ( Big Print Bounty by Ellie Brown) but decided to make it scrappy instead in an attempt to use up some of my stash, and actually only had to buy 1m of a soft green for the binding and some of the blocks to tie the other colours together. It was a quick pattern to piece, which was just as well since I’m convinced the thing grew while I was quilting it then shrank afterwards!

Thanks to DH for helping arrange the blocks and with layering it up to quilt, plus DD1 for keeping her little sister occupied while I did battle with the monster! 🙂

About sheppeylass

Mum of 4, I live on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. I've always sewn but the quilting bug snagged me a couple of years ago and now, with the encouragement of my artist husband, I'm spreading my wings into textile art.

Grew while I was quilting it then shrank afterwards….I can sooo empathise with you on that comment!!!! Its lovely though, and your combination of colours is perfect! Well done yourself- and wasn’t the buzz of finishing worthit all???

Definitely worth it! I’m gradually getting better at choosing colours for myself but sometimes am taken by surprise – this one was planned as “soft” but came up a bit brighter thanks to the aqua. 🙂
