Round up part 2

This is the sashiko cushion wrap. I chose a traditional plover design and am very pleased with the result. I bound it with a lotus flower fabric and put loops at each corner so that it can also be used as a mat or wrapping cloth. This unicorn fabric is a classic hourglass block, hand quilted as per Carolyn Forster’s instructions in her first book, Quilting-on-the-Go. I’ve had a yen to make this quilt for quite a while and as little one is no longer so little and needs a new quilt for her bed, well… So I decided to make all 20 blocks in different pink fabrics with the backings in as many different ones as possible. I then went to my stash and was astonished that I could only come up with 10…how could that be??? Isabella contributed a fat quarter from her stash but that still left a lot. So, I thought, that’s that for a while…then I went to my group and Ann was selling some of her stash… I bought some…and spent Friday cutting the background fabrics and several blocks. Then I ran up the first block, hand quilted it and pieced the next one,…

On Saturday, I went to the Doughty’s fabric sale held by Friendship Quilters in Gravesend. How could I resist some of these gorgeous pinks???? Some more were added to the box…So far, for this quilt which I am NOT making, I have 3 blocks quilted…

Two weeks ago at the last group meeting, Cilla showed us how to make 4 hand-pieced 3d blocks.  I then hand sewed them together and made this cushion. It’s the first thing I have made that’s entirely hand done, so we shall see how it wears!

About sheppeylass

Mum of 4, I live on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. I've always sewn but the quilting bug snagged me a couple of years ago and now, with the encouragement of my artist husband, I'm spreading my wings into textile art.
