Stars and other challenges

Yet another swap on the PP forum and organised by Jan, the theme was stars. I found a fantastic photo on the BBC’s news site which depicted the Milky Way and the billions of stars we can now see thanks to a new telescope. I added lots of tiny seed stitches with various metallic threads to enhance the glow of the stars then a few running stitches in the sand ripples – as soon as I saw those ripples, I thought of quilting!

Catsmudge sent me this set:Apparently, she’s never used her machine in this way before! They are gorgeous, thank you.

DH and Isabella gave me two yummy packets of Cath Kidston charm squares for Easter, one of boys’ fabric and one of girls’. Since we re-organised the furniture downstairs, I’ve been meaning to make a runner for the top of these two cupboards so I set to yesterday and came up with this runner, which will come in handy for a different forum’s challenge later this month!

This happy postcard was from Susan, who organised a Modern Flower swap for our yahoo group. It’s cheering up my mantlepiece for now before it moves to my pinboard.

And finally, also on the mantlepiece, fighting for room amongst the birthday  and Easter cards that are still up, is this beauty from Faye in Israel, made from 5 different fabrics of one colour:

About sheppeylass

Mum of 4, I live on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. I've always sewn but the quilting bug snagged me a couple of years ago and now, with the encouragement of my artist husband, I'm spreading my wings into textile art.
