Mother’s Day

This year was unusual as my husband took the two girls away for the weekend to visit his parents in Wales. This left me at home ON MY OWN for the first time in oh, I don’t know how many years! I was free to eat, drink, watch whatever I liked whenever I liked. So what did I do?

I watched loads of programmes on i-player plus dipped in and out of The Quilt Show, listened to the radio, made lots of lists, cleaned Isabella’s guinea pig’s hutch out completely, went to church – oh and SEWED!

I had some lovely cards and presents to open too – including a half metre of horse fabric from Isabella! I made her this snuggly cushion with red fleece on the back.

I finished quilting the altered nine-patch swap quilt . I’ve backed it with my snow-dyed fabric. Whilst it’s far from perfect (having caught the backing up a few times- oops!), it’s made a rather striking  lap quilt.

I made another cushion for the sofa – this one was inspired by a rather insipid cushion I saw in a shop. Mine is bigger, bolder and much, much fatter! (And hence a lot more expensive to produce – bother!)

I finished constructing this little cushion, too. The patchwork and embroidery design is from Aneela Hooey  over at http://comfortstitching.typepad.co.uk/comfortstitching/tutorials.html-. I adapted it to FMQ and altered the girl to remind me of my own little moppets (all 3 of my girls had curls – and my son too!) I also hand quilted the patchwork. I found so much at Comfort Stitching to inspire me – thank goodness I had all weekend to blog hop! Here’s the back:

I made this Modern Flower postcard to send Kim as part of a swap, too. It was fun using up some scraps from the charm pack I’d used for the birds cushion.

And then the family came home……

About sheppeylass

Mum of 4, I live on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. I've always sewn but the quilting bug snagged me a couple of years ago and now, with the encouragement of my artist husband, I'm spreading my wings into textile art.
