Underground Railroad

The months are flying past with this series of blocks based on a series of articles written by Tess for the PP forum. I’m adding to the blocks as I have a huge 6′ bed to cover. This is another quilt-as-I-go project, by hand this time. It’s good to have something portable for the few times I have time on my hands while out and about with little one.

Here’s this month’s extra block, ready to quilt:

I still need to add a border though to bring it up to the 16″ size I decided to make these blocks. I bought yet more backing fabric this week and as I was cutting it today, I began wondering about using it to make plain filler blocks so that I can put the blocks on point. That would certainly give me lots of hand quilting practise! Not that I currently have time – I need to have “Birthday Butterflies” done in a month as it’s entered in the Hearty Show at Aylesford!

About sheppeylass

Mum of 4, I live on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. I've always sewn but the quilting bug snagged me a couple of years ago and now, with the encouragement of my artist husband, I'm spreading my wings into textile art.
